As part of Google’s Street View feature, thousands of vehicles with cameras roam around the world and provide 3D images to Maps. In a strange incident in the US, it turned out that the Street View car was involved in a police chase.
Google Street View car tore through a school zone
A traffic chase in the US state of Indiana is on the agenda of social media. According to information from local sources, a police officer realized that a Street View car was endangering children by exceeding the speed limit in a school zone.
While the speed limit in the school zone was 60 km/h, the Street View car was traveling at 160 km/h. Trying to pull the driver over, the police officer started a movie-like pursuit after being rejected. The pursuit, which continued for about 10 minutes, resulted in the Street View vehicle crashing into a stream.
The driver, who was taken into custody after the chase, said that he did not stop because he was afraid of the police and that he was speeding even more. Police are currently investigating why the driver was speeding. Google has not yet commented on the incident.
For those who don’t know, Google has a fleet of vehicles equipped with special cameras that capture 360-degree images for Street View mapping. It is not known whether the cameras were actively taking pictures during the chase.
There were no casualties other than the Street View car falling into the creek. However, the fact that it exceeded the speed limit in the school zone endangered the residents of the area. Some citizens complained that Google did not sufficiently control its employees.
